Badminton Mildura started out as a small club playing out of the Church of Christ, and since then has shifted through a variety of stadiums around Sunraysia including Nichols Point, St Josephs Stadium, Irymple Leisure Centre, Chaffey Secondary College, and most recently the Mildura South Sporting Precinct.
Through its history the Club has seen hundreds of people come and go from all around the world, including Taiwan, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia Germany, France and New Zealand.
About Us
The Club has 6 Life Members, Heather Moser, Jeff Rose, Margaret and Barry Burke, Cheryl Taylor and Mark Morris recognised for their hard work and devotion to the club over many years.
The members of the Club would like to pay tribute to Heather and Jeff, both of whom have passed away, but their memory lives on within the Club.
The Club also honours Lorraine Roenfeldt, a former member of the Club and one who played a significant role in the growth of the Club in its early days, with the ‘Lorraine Roenfeldt Memorial Trophy’, awarded to members who demonstrate leadership qualities, outstanding sportsmanship and integrity within the club.
The Badminton Club is also known for hosting its MAD MixUps tournament each year, with people travelling from all over Victoria and South Australia to participate in the two-day competition each year.
Badminton is currently played 2 nights a week at the Mildura Sporting Precinct and the committee is delighted to see between 30-50 players on court each night.
Our Techniques
STROKE
Badminton offers a wide variety of basic strokes, and players require a high level of skill to perform all of them effectively. All strokes can be played either forehand or backhand.
BIOMECHANICS
Badminton biomechanics have not been the subject of extensive scientific study, but some studies confirm the minor role of the wrist in power generation.
SPIN
Spin net is an advanced technique. It is an offensive technique that, if done well, can easily end the rally, or force your opponent into a bad position.
DECEPTION
Once players have mastered these basic strokes, they can hit the shuttlecock from and to any part of the court, powerfully and softly as required.
Play, Learn, and Practice
Coaching
The Club currently has 1 certified coach, Wiwi Moksan, who has started running coaching sessions in line with the Mildura Rural City Council with children aged between 8-12 and 13-16 years old.
Wiwi also runs sessions with schools, currently working with Mildura Christian College, Mildura Specialist School and SMEC.
With a rising interest in coaching, it is hoped that the Club will soon be able to provide coaching for children under the age of 7 as well.
